OnPR sponsors international youth dance competition

I wrote last month in the post Taking leaps and bounds in social media that I’d been inspired by the Prix de Lausanne’s webcast coverage of its 43rd international ballet competition. Well, in line with supporting several education-focused initiatives over the years, I’ve committed my time where my mouth is, and OnPR is now supporting a similar event which is closer to home to our German headquarters in Bavaria. We’ll provide communications strategy, press and PR, social media, and sponsorship activities.

Winning a scholarship at an international academy of dance is a dream come true for any committed young dancer, and can make all the difference to success in the professional world of dance. That’s why, as a local company with an international customer base OnPR is sponsoring the initiative of Ballet Friends Regensburg e.V. and the Ballet Dance Academy Bonivento-Dazzi to invite young talents of the ballet world take part in the Second Talent Dance Award in Regensburg, Germany, on July 3rd– 5th, 2015.

According to Olaf Schmidt, Chairman of Ballet Friends Regensburg, Artistic Director at the State Theatre in Lüneburg, both in Germany, and Talent Dance Award Jury member: “It can be incredibly difficult for young dancers to get on-stage experience in a professional setting, to meet and learn first hand from the best in our industry. We established the Talent Dance Award to bring 60 young talents together with the people that can change their lives by giving them support and guidance at exactly the time they need it – during their teenage years.”

For example, in 2013 Violetta Keller (born: 26.07.2000) was a student at the Ballet Meister Schule in Siegen, Germany, until she won first prize in the ballet category (age group I), and a special prize for best new talent for her interpretation of Tchaikovsky’s Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Violetta received a stipendium to study at the Ballet Academy in Munich, where she is now a student (see photo).

Ballet Friends Regensburg e.V. is a non-profit association established primarily to provide spiritual and financial support to children – by opening access to the medium of dance – and potentially-gifted young dancers in Regensburg. As a founding supporter of the Talent Dance Award international youth dance competition, Ballet Friends Regensburg is committed to enabling young dancers to participate in international competitions, guest-animated workshops, and theatre performances. It also facilitates national and international exchange programs for both teachers and students to promote ballet and dance education, and provides grants and stipendiums. The association is supported by private and business membership.

The pinnacle of the two-day event will be a Gala Evening, where the finalists will perform onstage at the Theater Velodrom on July 5th, 2015. A prestigious jury of ballet company directors, dancers and choreographers will share their proven experience with the finalists, award up to Euro 9,000 in prizes, and make grants and recommendations for further study at international academies of dance, not to mention award contracts at German ballet companies where appropriate. Confirmed jury members include:

  • Maestro Giuseppe Carbone, previously Director of Ballet at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and the Arena di Verona, Italy
  • Guest Juror for the Gala Evening: Alen Bottaini, Principal Dancer and currently trainer at the English National Ballet School, UK
  • Professor Jan Broeckx, currently Chair of the Ballet Academy of Music and Performing Arts Munich, Germany
  • Lisa-Marie Cullum, currently principal dancer at the Bavaria State Ballet, Germany, and celebrated teacher
  • Ricardo Fernando, currently Artistic Director of Ballet Hagen, Germany

The organizers of the Talent Dance Award really appreciate the financial, organizational and professional help of its supporters, including the members of Ballet Friends Regensburg, without which it would not be possible to run this valuable opportunity to develop the next generation of ballet dancers, and an important part of our cultural heritage. Principle sponsors include: the City of Regensburg, Generali, Autohaus Bauer GmbH, Sparkasse Regensburg, and now OnPR!
